Things That God Can’t Do
"Can God create a rock so big that He can't lift it?"
You'll hear this question trotted out in freshman philosophy classes or by people who like to argue with Christians, because to the skeptic's mind, this is a catch-22 kind of question. Either way you answer it, He can't do something. He either can't make the rock or He can't lift it. And on the skeptic's terms, that means that the very idea of an omnipotent god is self-defeating. He does not exist because He cannot exist.
So, how do you respond? In part, you refuse to grant the premise. So what if God can't do something? There are all kinds of things He can't do, and those so-called "limitations" are precisely what make Him who He is.
