Hickory Grove Church (PCA)
Life is God's gift. More than a simple prohibition against unlawful killing, the sixth commandment is a call for God's people to preserve, protect, and promote the life He has given His images. To choose life is to embrace the new life we have in Christ and to display it for all the world to see. Join us as Pastor Kenny speaks to this in a sermon titled "Choose Life" (Ex 20:13). That It May Go Well With You
Our modern society prizes individuality to a fault. We all want to be our own person—to break free of the familial and traditional ties that bind us. But what if God has given us mothers and fathers, spiritual leaders and civil governors as a means of blessing? What if the home, church, and community are meant to be the training grounds in which we learn to honor God by honoring people? And what if all that honor given and received is the very means by which God intends to bless us? Join us as we consider all this and more under the heading of the fifth commandment: Honor your father and mother (Ex 20:12). The Forgotten Commandment
In our always-on, hyper-productive world, the command to stop, rest, and worship sounds more like a hindrance than a help. Today, we'll look at the fourth commandment (Remember the Sabbath Day), what it means, and how it applies to Christians today. Pastor Kenny will preach a sermon from Ex 20:8-11 titled "The Forgotten Commandment." Mary and Martha
We're so accustomed to "doing" that we often miss Jesus' call to sit at His feet and "be." Join us as one of our elders, Bob Allen, unpacks this tension in a sermon titled "Mary and Martha" (Luke 10:38-42, John 11:17-35). The Name Above All Names
God's name is a treasure more precious than any other. In His incomprehensible goodness, God shares that name with us and commands us to bear it in a manner befitting our new identity in Christ. How (Not) to Worship
In a world where "you can have it your way" has gone from a burger-joint promise to a culture-wide expectation, we're often tempted to worship God on our terms and in our own way. But what does God have to say about our worship? Could it be that His way is the best way—really, the only way—to draw near to the true and living God rather than the false, lifeless gods of our imagination? Find out more as Pastor Kenny preaches a sermon on the Second Commandment titled "How (Not) to Worship." No Other Gods
In Christ, God has set us free from our sin and invited us to bask in the warm glow of His presence. Here, there's no room for the many false gods who make promises they can never fulfill. Join us as Pastor Kenny preaches a sermon on the First Commandments (Ex 20:3) titled "No Other Gods." For more information about our church, please visit http:/hickorygrovepca.org. 00:00 Prelude 04:57 Welcome and Greeting 05:35 Announcements and Invocation 14:45 Confession of Sins/Assurance of Pardon/Affirmation of Faith 26:15 Pastoral Prayer 34:40 Sermon: "No Other Gods" (Ex 20:3) 1:13:10 Communion 1:22:30 Closing Prayer and Benediction
"Christianity isn't about rules; it's about a relationship." You've probably heard that line before. It communicates a vital truth about the Christian faith: we are saved by grace through faith and NOT by keeping the rules. Yes, and amen! But does that mean Christians no longer have to follow the rules by obeying God's law? Not so fast! Today, Pastor Kenny begins our new series in the Ten Commandments with a sermon from Ex 20:1-2, titled "Gracious Rules." In it, we'll learn that God's rules are a wonderful gift given not to secure our place in His family but to show us what it looks like to enjoy the fullness of life He intends for us.
